Have you ever started doing something for fun, then realize you actually have a deep passion for it?
That is pretty much how I got started with my henna business. My sister brought home henna from a local Indian bazaar for the FIRST time when I was about 12 years old and told me how it's like a temporary tattoo. I have always admired drawing, crafting, and all the creative things I've been able to see growing up. Drawing with henna easily became my favorite thing to practice once I got started. I didn't know what to draw at first besides small, silly designs like smiley faces and peace signs on my hands and wrists. Eventually, my friends took notice and wanted henna designs too!
With more people to practice drawing on I was able to learn how to draw other symbols, & experience how it would be to henna anyone. With years of support from friends + family and countless hours of practice, I took my henna to the next level by scouting South FL for local events to attend.
I worked my first show at a Brazilian-themed music, arts & crafts fair alongside my parents in 2014. I was shy with most people and was not successful in selling henna designs that day.
Although I felt out of place, I learned what I could from the experience and would try again but before I did, I decided to get smart about it. So here I am, almost a senior in high school, taking advantage of an early college admissions program being offered. Thankfully, I began taking my college courses early on that led me to my Business/Marketing degree which helped tremendously in building my confidence and knowledge.
Living in South FL, there are endless events I would attend on the weekends to gain more experience and exposure. I was driving to different cities every weekend to set up my tent, tables, decorations, and albums to promote my henna designs which soon paid off. I found the perfect market in Wynwood where I was able to keep a temporary residency on the weekends for about 2.5 years. It was amazing the number of people and businesses that were interested in having me set up at their private events.
I've been fortunate enough to work private events for business grand openings (retail & restaurant), on music video sets, at concerts, art festivals, indoor school field trips, and other private celebratory events.
Attending these various events, & local markets around South FL helped increase my exposure so much that I am now able to represent myself in another area! By 2019, I graduated with a marketing management, & business operations degree. I went from representing myself as a sole proprietorship DBA Henna.Art.Vibes to what you see today, Designs by LF, LLC.
This is what has brought me to LAS VEGAS! More growth, more exposure, and more passion!
Lu was born & raised in BROWARD, FL. Currently living in sunny Las Vegas taking daily appointments, events & setting up my first online store with one-of-a-kind arts & crafts for others to enjoy.
